News Review, New York Times

I was shocked as I flipped through the "New York Times" Tuesday, November 9. On page A21, under the headline "National Briefing" was a tiny article titled "Arrests Made in Child Sex Trade" 69 prostitutes all under the age of 17 were found in the United States. Many of them as young as 12. I was horrified as this article seemed unreal; and yet, here it was, the truth of sex slavery shoved into this little corner of the paper. My stomach turned as thought of myself and my sisters at the young age of 12: carefree, eager, pure. And yet these little girls, although they had made it here to the greatest nation on earth, were experiencing none of that, and now they never would.
I am Currently reading "The Road of Lost Innocence" By Somaly Mam. It is her story of forced prostitution in Cambodia and what she is doing to change the cycle of perversion in her home country. To see the very evil she is fighting growing and poisoning my own country is heart breaking. I am ashamed that this atrocity was nothing more than a blurb on a back page of the news paper. I am ashamed that my fellow countrymen don't seem to care that these little girls had their very hope and innocence stolen from them. I am ashamed that I personally don't know how to fight this dark demon. So, I am posting, I am standing to say it is not okay with me that this goes on in my country and I will arm myself with education so I know what my next step will be in stopping this destruction.

Chocolate Jumbo's

Started the real seasonal baking yesterday. I felt a sudden urge to break out the molasses, and the results were some very amazing Chocolate Jumbo's from my "secret family recipe".
I use the term "secret" loosely to mean; I have it and so does everyone else :)
I took a dozen to the SAE race team shop as motivation for the faithful guys who showed up on the morning after one of the guys 21st birthday party.
These were no ordinary Jumbo's, they were the size of the lid of a quick cook oats container, which is what I used as the cookie cutter, and I did not remove the centers. They were frosted while still warm so the frosting melted into the cookies and slid off the sides. My biggest delight was how moist they stayed.
Overall it was a very delightful first baking experience for the season. I plan on systematically devouring the rest of them with Alex and Anthony throughout the rest the of the weekend.

Flip Video

Just tried a Flip video last week for the first time.
Wow, I love it. It is sooo user friendly and everything you need dcame with it. I didn't have to go purchase anything, all memory is internal as well as the rechargable battery.
I really enjoy using this product and love that there is a large red central button which is yoru start and stop recording button. Every time you stop recording it saves that video as its own complete segment that can now be shared independantly of any other video you record. You can also capture images from any video and save/print those imamges as pictures.
Over all I am extremely happy with the product so far.
I have used the soft pouch that came with it to carry it with me. It is the size of a cell phone and weighs 3.3 ounces. It records 60 min of video and charges through the USB port that stores in the top of the product. Over all it is a very handy camera, I look forward to see how it holds up under cold temperatures and extended use.

Back from outer space

Just getting settled from our move to the big city lol.
I have managed to find most of the important things, extracting them from various boxes, bags and the like.
Life continues to take twisting turns, high rises and then deep plunges into the unknown. Alex is starting his first semester at RPI and I am finishing up at Coby. I am searching for my next school and looking forward to cutting out the long commute.
I am taking advantage of my time in the car and just finished up "The Nanny Diaries" read by Julie Roberts. It was cute and entertaining next on the list to listen to is "White Fang". Alex said he really enjoyed "White Fang" but that it is really short.

apple picking

we went apple picking on Saturday,
it was very enjoyable and the weather was beautiful. The whole experience was pleasant and the fresh apple cider doughnuts were fantastic.

in this pictures Madelyn and I are picking golden delicious apples, I hand them to her, she puts them in the bag. You can see by her facial expression she takes her job quite seriously.

So I am at a new job now
I loved baking but I was left with no choice but to find a new one
when Sweet temptations was forced to close. My Boss is expecting and needs to be on bed rest.

So now my job is to corral small children and make them behave while their parents are at work.
I am a head teacher at HeadStart in Cobleskill. I like it for the most part, but it is taking a lot of getting used to. If any one has any pointers for making children sit, behave, be nice or any other fun handy advice let me know i am very open to suggestions.

Alex started college last week which means he promptly went out and got us internet, posts should be much more frequent.
especially since i am currently unemployed. That's right I was let go from my job at sweet temptations because she will be closing, or so i was told.
